What is the difference between a cold cup and a hot cup?

2025-11-11

Paper cups are used to hold beverages such as carbonated drinks, coffee, milk, cold drinks, etc. This is their earliest and most fundamental use.
Beverage paper cups can be divided into two types: cold cups and hot cups. Cold cups are used to hold cold beverages, such as carbonated drinks, iced coffee, etc; Hot cups are used to hold hot beverages such as coffee, black tea, etc.
Cold cups, also known as disposable paper cups, have a layer of edible wax on their surface. Cold drinks can cause water to accumulate on the surface of the paper cup, leading to its hardening. Applying wax can make it waterproof. At 0-5 ℃, this wax is particularly stable and safe. But if the temperature of the beverage exceeds 62 ℃, the wax will solidify and the paper cup will absorb water and deform. Unlike cold cups, hot cups are coated with a special layer of polyethylene film, which not only has good heat resistance, but also is non-toxic and harmful when soaked in low-temperature beverages.
